  • Y10 Golfers break 10 year dry spell

    Wednesday 11th July, 2018:

    L Fisher, J Stevenson and L Turner, Year 10, have qualified for The England Golf Championships at Woodall Spa on 11th July after being victorious at the regional event in April. This is the first time we've had a team qualify in over 10 years! Good luck boys!

  • Y7 Quad Kids School Games winners

    Tuesday 10th July, 2018:

    Well done to our Derbyshire School Games Year 7 Quad Kids winners. Individual champions were Cosmo Johnson and Ruby Sayles. All athletes competed in 4 events: 100m sprint, vortex throw, 800m, and long jump at Mount St Mary's school on 10th July.

  • Y7 Bronze and Silver Athletics Success

    Tuesday 03rd July, 2018:

    Well done to Ben Morton, Year 7, for success in athletics this season. He has been competing in the South Yorkshire County Athletics outdoor series and claimed Bronze in the 100 metres, Silver in the 200 metres, and an overall 3rd place trophy for sprint.

    Congratulations to the 75 Year 7, 8, and 9 athletes for competing in the NED Athletics Championships at Tupton on Thursday 28th June. They competed in hot conditions at both track and field events. Year 7 and 9 girls won, and everyone else were runners up.

  • Y7/8 are NED Quad Kid Team Champs

    Monday 11th June, 2018:

    Year 7 and 8s became NED Quad Kid Team Champions on 11th June. All members competed in 800m, 100m, Long Jump, and Vortex Throw. R Sayles, L Gregory, A Lindsay, and C Johnson, all finished 1st. The teams progress to the School Games Finals on 10th July.

  • Y10 gets 800m championship best time

    Saturday 09th June, 2018:

    Congratulations to Gabriel Gisborne, Year 10, who ran a championship best time of 1:56.20 for the 800m at the Derbyshire Schools Athletics on 9th June. He was also awarded the Mike Peake Memorial trophy for performance of the day. Amazing!

    Monday 04th June, 2018:

    Mrs Amans is delighted to be nominated for an Inspirational Mentor Award, by a student teacher who she mentored during a placement at DHFS. She'll be put forward for an overall Inspirational Mentor 2018 award, to be presented at the annual mentor conference in July.

  • Y7 is GB Gymnastics Bars champion

    Sunday 27th May, 2018:

    Courtney-Leigh Simpson, Year 7, became East Midlands Gymnastics Champion in March, and went on to the British National finals in May. The team of 5 became National Champions. Courtney placed 3rd overall and was crowned Bars Champion of 56 competitors in GB.

  • 'Highly Commended' for Clay Poppies

    DHFS has been 'Highly Commended', by Dronfield Civic Society, for the 2018 Remembrance Day clay poppy installation. Congratulations to Mrs Ryder in Art who headed the campaign and received the John Clough Award at the St Andrew's Church award evening.

    Wednesday 16th May, 2018:

    On Wednesday 16th May, 52 students in Years 7-10 went to Moorways Athletics Stadium, Derby, to compete in the first round of the English Schools' Track and Field Cup. The Junior Girls' Team came second and qualified for the next round in June. Well done!

    E Shipley is Derbyshire champ for the U15G 800 and 1500; G Gisborne is U17B 800 champ; E Ajagbe is U15G 100 champ; C Johnson is U13B 800, Long Jump, and High Jump champ (+ silver in 1500 and 75 Hurdles); L Gregory won U15G 1500 silver and 800 bronze.

    Over the weekend of 5-6th May, Josh Goh in Year 10 became the U16 British Youth Fencing champion! The competition was run as a knock-out event and Josh took part in 11 bouts, one of which saw him convincingly defeat the current no.1 British seed.

    Sunday 22nd April, 2018:

    Congratulations to Emma Shipley in Year 8 who qualified to run in the U13 Girls London Mini Marathon on Sunday 22nd April. In very hot temperatures she completed the 3 mile course (the final 3 miles of the full London Marathon) and came an outstanding 11th.

    Lily Chambers, Year 13, has been awarded a £2000 scholarship to Bangor University, where she will study French, Spanish and German. Around 40 merit scholarships are awarded each year and only to students who excel in their subject area. Well done!

    £4095 has been raised at a dinner dance, supported by DHFS staff, family and friends. Along with further generous donations, Coloured Cob Equestrian Centre can now purchase a hoist that allows riders with disabilities to mount horses with ease and enjoy riding.

  • Y9 ranked in UK top 20 for Athletics

    Sunday 25th February, 2018:

    Eniola Ajagbe (Year 9) competed at the England Athletics U20/17/15 indoor championships. She got to the semi finals in the 60m and 60m hurdles. Her 60m race was live on TV! She is ranked top 20 in the UK, moving forward with interest from 2 England coaches.

    Emma Shipley won a hard earned bronze in a scrappy (lots of elbows) U15 girls 800m at the England Athletics Indoor Championships on Sunday 25th February. Her time of 2:16.54 was close to her PB, which is great after her injury this winter. It is her third national medal.

    130 maths students entered the UKMT Challenge in February. 58 received certificates. 12 students achieved gold, which are only awarded to the top 6% of entrants nationally. 11 students qualifed for the 'follow up' round - they're in the top 0.005% in the country!

    Year 9 students competed in the Manufacturing Institute's 'MakeIt' STEM competition on 30th November, against 6 teams from other schools. They presented their business plan clearly and confidently... and won the heat! The final is in Manchester in July 2018.

    Thursday 17th August, 2017:

    We celebrated with record results on 17th August, with a 9% increase on last year's excellent outcomes. Overall, results across the board, for girls and boys, were hugely impressive; particularly for the top grades with 64% at A*/B and 33% at A*/A.
