  • East Midlands Mini Marathon Trials

    Sunday 31st March, 2019:

    On Sunday 31st March, Emma Shipley (U15 Girls), Bobbie Waugh (U13 Girls) and Josh Wragg (U15 Boys) qualified for the East Midlands London Mini Marathon team. Congratulations to these young athletes who took part in the marathon trial.

  • Yorks Road Relay Championships

    Saturday 30th March, 2019:

    It was a good weekend for DHFS girls on Saturday 30th March. Leah Gregory won a team gold at the Yorkshire Road Relay Championships over a distance of 1.6 km in Leeds. Amy Allcard also ran a strong race. Congratulations girls on this great effort.

  • Y10 are 'Maths Feast' puzzle winners

    Wednesday 06th March, 2019:

    8 Year 10 students took part in the 'Maths Feast' competition on 6th March, competing against 13 other school teams from Sheffield and Derbyshire. The teams did DHFS proud with A Daff, S Groarke, H Jenkinson, and M Freeland winning the puzzle round!

  • £45 raised by Fairtrade 'Bake Off'

    Friday 01st March, 2019:

    On Friday 1st March, 30+ students entered our Fairtrade Bake Off, after which, the mouth-watering treats were sold to raise £45 for Fairtrade. Local MP Lee Rowley judged Isabella and Jessica (KS3), Elliot (KS4) and Liam, Adam and Sam (KS5) the winners!

    Thursday 21st February, 2019:

    A huge well done to Owen Jenkinson, Year 12, for his performance in musical production 'West Side Story', where he played leading man Tony. English staff, who watched the show at Chesterfield's Pomegranate Theatre, thoroughly enjoyed it and said he was brilliant!

  • Y13 gains place at top theatre school

    Monday 11th February, 2019:

    A level drama and theatre student, Lauren Wadsworth, has achieved a place at Laine Theatre Arts; a top performing arts training school with an excellent record of moving people into the performing arts industry. She's also holding audition call backs to other schools.

  • Students achieve UKMT school record

    Thursday 07th February, 2019:

    130 students sat the UK Maths Trust Intermediate Challenge on Thursday 7th February: 62% achieved a certificate (a school record!), 5 placed in the top 2.5% of entrants nationally and go through to the international round on Thursday 21st March.

  • Success at U13/15 Athletic Champs

    Sunday 03rd February, 2019:

    Talented athletes Emma Shipley and Leah Gregory won their U15 Girls 800m heats at the U15/13 Athletice Championships this weekend to go through to the final, where Emma gained silver with an English Schools best time. Brilliant news girls!

  • £193.91 raised for Muscular Dystrophy

    Friday 01st February, 2019:

    'Go Orange' day at DHFS on Friday 1st February, was a huge success, raising £193.91 overall throughout the day. The orange was everywhere! Sixth Form students and staff participated in the nationwide event to raise money for muscular dystrophy. Thanks folks.

  • Basketball winning streak continues...

    Monday 28th January, 2019:

    Things are currently going very well in Basketball: w/c 28th January, Year 10 defeated Woodlands 60-14 in the County Cup, Year 7 won 29-0 against QUEGS, and our U18 girls defeated John Fisher School in the National Cup Quarter Final. Brilliant news everyone!

  • Sheffield Athletics Festival success

    Sunday 27th January, 2019:

    At the Sheffield Athletics Festival this weekend: Claudia Turnell won U17G 800 silver; Leah Gregory took U15G 800 gold; Amy Allcard got U15G 800 bronze; Eniola Ajagbe took U17G 60 gold; Cosmo Johnson won U15B high jump gold and long jump bronze.

    Wednesday 23rd January, 2019:

    Leigh Speight has reached the FutureChef National Final, beating tough competition from the region. She is now 1 of 10 out of 12,000 entries. She'll be going to Westminster Kingsway College for the finals in March, to be judged by industry and celebrity chefs.

  • Y11 wins Northern Indoor U17 800m

    Sunday 13th January, 2019:

    It's a great start to 2019 for Gabriel Gisborne in Year 11, who, this weekend, won the North of England Indoor Men's U17 800m title to go with his outdoor title from last year. He also broke the championship record with a winning time of 1.57.83. Amazing!

    Sunday 13th January, 2019:

    Congratulations to Eniola Ajagbe, Year 10, on a successful 2019 Northern Indoor Championships; She got to finals in the Women's U17 60m, and semi-final in the 200m category in her first season out. Very tough qualifications and final against 6 national champions.

  • NED Cross Country champion success

    Thursday 10th January, 2019:

    Great success in NED Cross Country on Thursday 10th January. Y7 girls, Y8/9 girls, and Y10/11 boys, all became NED champions! 12 students have been selected to represent NED at Derbyshire Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday 19th January.

    A huge congratulations to Cosmo Johnson (Year 8) and Emma Shipley (Year 9) who, on Saturday 5th January, became Derbyshire County U13 Boys and U15 Girls Cross Country 2019 Champions respectively. Strong races with outstanding finishes. Well done both.

    Wednesday 21st November, 2018:

    Sam (Year 9) and Leigh (Year 11) competed in the Springboard FutureChef Local Finals on Wednesday 21st November. They made a 2-course meal for under £7, and Leigh got an amazing score of 39/40! She'll be competing in the National Finals in January.

    Friday 09th November, 2018:

    The U18 girls football team won 3-2 in the 2nd round of the English Schools' Football National Cup, playing against South Hunsley Sixth Form College. With goals from Megan Jones and Eve Moat, the U18s march on to Round 3. Marvellous game, ladies!

  • Poppies and keyrings for Remembrance

    Friday 09th November, 2018:

    2018 marks 100 years since the end of the World War 1, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Students made clay poppies and acrylic keyrings in honour of the DHFS service men who lost their lives, and to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

  • U16 girls win Round 2 in National Cup

    Thursday 08th November, 2018:

    The U16 girls' football team played Tapton School in the English Schools' Football National Cup. DHFS girls clinched the win after originally going 1-0 up. The final score was 2-1 on the bitterly cold evening, but the team got on with it and progress to Round 3!

  • NED Primary Sports Hall Athletics

    Thursday 08th November, 2018:

    On 8th November, we hosted the NED Primary School Sports Hall Athletics Competition for Year 5 and 6. 8 schools competed and Gorseybrigg won. Thanks to our 25 young sports leaders for helping. It was a great success and we saw a few Olympians in the making.

    Saturday 20th October, 2018:

    Much success in the x3 relays on Saturday 20th October: Gabriel Gisborne achieved a Northern silver medal and South Yorkshire gold for the team U17 event (8th fastest time), and Emma Shipley gained an U15 double gold (3rd fastest time). Brilliant!

  • Cultural bakes raise £47.60 for charity

    We celebrated the 'European Day of Languages' on 26th September with a cultural 'Bake Off'. Well done to winners, Holly Rylance and Charlotte Colley! All the bakes were wonderful and the sale afterwards raised £47.60 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

  • Mission Recycling: Success!

    Monday 24th September, 2018:

    Last year's focus on getting recycling initiated within school has been achieved! There'll be four 100 litre recycling bins to collect plastic bottles, for Phoenix Hall, Fanshawe Diner, Henry's and the Hub. This wouldn't have been possible without your help and support!

  • SkillForce graduates gain Prince Award

    Tuesday 18th September, 2018:

    Four students attended the Prince William Awards Ceremony at Birmingham Uni on 18th September. David Walliams presented, and they were later photographed with him and Prince William. Each received a graduation certificate for their SkillForce efforts.

  • Strong year of GCSE results at DHFS

    Thursday 23rd August, 2018:

    We celebrated another strong year of GCSE results this August; 58% of students achieved grades 5-9 in English and maths (78% got min. standard passes in both). Creative and technology subjects scored high above national figures and we had 66 grade 9s in science!

    Thursday 16th August, 2018:

    100% A Level pass rate has been achieved by hard graft; 64% of students achieved at least 1 A*/A/B grade, 26% gained A*/A grades, and quite amazing progress made by some individuals who battled against challenging circumstances. Well done all!
