On Wednesday 16th May, 2018, DHFS took 52 students in Year 7-10 to Moorways Athletics Stadium, Derby, to compete in the first round of the English Schools' Track and Field Cup. Keep reading to find out how our athletes did...
There were seven schools there in total and our athletes were all motivated and prepared to compete in their various events.
The weather was fine, not too hot or cold, and for some of our athletes it was the first time competing in a stadium setting so they were eager to get started.
It was a pleasure to see the DHFS athletes showing grit and determination to run the fastest, throw the furthest, jump the highest or the longest. We even had some competitors in the pole vault and the hammer throw!
It was also pleasing to see the athletes helping each other out and some of the older ones giving the younger ones some helpful advice before their event.
After a long but successful day the final results were:
- Junior Girls' Team: Second place (qualified for the next round)
- Junior Boys' team: Fourth place
- Intermediate Girls' team: Fourth place
- Intermediate Boys' Team: Fifth place
Well done to all who competed and we wish the Junior girls' team best of luck in the next round in June!
